Welcome to Jacob Beam Public School
November 24th Friday Update
It has been another great week at Jacob Beam! This week as a school we focused on Bullying Prevention and Intervention. It was wonderful to see so many families in the school for interviews. If you haven’t had a chance to meet with the teacher, or have a phone call, please reach out to your child’s teacher to book an appointment.
Education Foundations of Niagara
Are you looking to show your appreciation to your child’s teacher or school staff member but not sure how to do that during this time? Please consider making a donation in honour of someone through the EFN (Education Foundations of Niagara). Your gift makes an immediate impact on the lives of DSBN students - whether it's through helping with basic necessities, through providing scholarships, or by enhancing their learning environment. To learn more about EFN, please visit their website at https://efnniagara.dsbn.org/ .
Afterschool Christmas Craft Group at Trinity United Church
Grades 5 - 8 are invited to Trinity United Church for an after-school Christmas Craft group, December 7, 14, 21, 3:00 - 4:30 pm. We will have snacks and juice then make a Christmas craft. Cost $10 for 3 sessions. Please register with the church office, info@trintiybeamsville.ca or call 905-563-4943.
Dressing for Colder Weather
As cooler weather approaches, please be aware that children are expected to be dressed appropriately for the weather conditions every day. Coats, hats, boots and mittens/gloves are necessary for your child to enjoy the outdoor fitness breaks and gym classes. Students will continue to have gym classes outside during this time. Students who are well enough to be at school are expected to be outside with their friends during fitness breaks as indoor supervision is not available during this time.
Parent Council Student Support Fund
The Parent Council is happy to bring back the Student Support Fund this year. A change this year is that it will be an ongoing item on School Cash Online. The Student Support Fund is used to help families participate in trips, food days or events at Jacob Beam. This item will have options for donating $5, $10, or $15 to this fund. These donations will be held in a budget account for supporting the family’s engagement in upcoming Jacob Beam Events. If you would like to receive a tax receipt, there is also the option of using the Support Your School, Green online donations tab/button found on the Jacob Beam website or by CLICKING HERE. You would need to select the 4th option (Program Specific) and designate the Student Support Fund in the comments. There is a minimum $20.00 donation using this option. If you want more information about the Student Support Fund, or you would benefit from funds for an upcoming trip or event, please contact Mrs. Di Roma.
From School Council Fundraising Committee:
Thank you so much to everyone for their support in our Big Box of Cards fundraiser!! It has now ended, so if you still have your sample box at home, please return it to the office, or pay for it on School CashOnline ASAP. We have our next fun and exciting fundraiser ready for you, and en route to Jacob Beam as we speak! Let's raise our school spirit even higher, with these awesome custom-made Croc Jibbitz!! Jibbitz are 1 for $8.00 or 3 for $20.00, and will be available for purchase on School CashOnline. These will make perfect gifts or stocking stuffers! All funds raised from sales will go directly towards school-based initiatives for the students.
Book Fair!
A big thank you to all of the parents who supported our book fair this week. This money goes back into keeping our library stocked with current books and materials.

Movember
It is Movember time! Some of Jacob Beam’s male teachers started to grow their mustaches and beards on November 1st to support this cause. It is a month when we can do our part as a school to help raise money for research and support for men’s health.
This year, the Grade 8 leadership team ‘The Beam Team’ is asking for donations to be made on this link: https://ca.movember.com/team/2438878 and once you enter the Jacob Beam Bengals Team, scroll to the bottom of the page for the list of participating staff. Your donation can be made all to one teacher, spread amongst teachers, or to the TEAM. Every $1 donation will provide your child with 1 ballot. If the donation is made to the TEAM, your child can distribute their ballots to the teachers of choice. If the donation is made to one particular staff member, the ballots will all go towards the teacher selected. The ballots will be drawn at an assembly so that your child may win the opportunity to shave a male teacher's beard/mustache! The teachers who are participating are Mr.Hogg, Mr.Woelk, Mr.Robinson, and Mr.Chuchman! Donations can be made until Thursday, November 30! Thank you for your consideration and participation in MOVEMBER!
Winter is Coming! Inclement Weather Day Reminders
Transportation Cancellations - Niagara Student Transportation Services (NSTS) makes the decision to cancel transportation based on weather forecasts and in consultation with the bus companies who have their drivers test the actual road conditions. NSTS will contact the transportation Superintendent by 5:30 a.m. to report on the status of student transportation. Every effort is made to communicate the decision by 6:00 a.m. Area Superintendents will be informed if student transportation will be canceled. Transportation cancellation information can be found on the NSTS website, and local media often shares the information as well.
School Closures - School closures will be determined by the Director. When the decision to close schools is made, it refers to all schools: both in-person and remote/virtual learners. Every effort will be made to share school closure information before 6:00 am on the day of the school closure. When the decision to close schools is made, a central email will be sent to all staff informing them of the closures. In addition, information can be found on dsbn.org, and all school websites, DSBN social media, and local media share the news widely as well.
Optional Snow Day activities for kindergarten to Grade 8, will be available on the DSBN website on days when schools are closed due to inclement weather.
Communication to Parents - Information about transportation changes and school closures will be posted on all school websites, DSBN social media, and shared with local media. There is also detailed information on the DSBN website at http://www.dsbn.org/inclementweather.
